Is a UK licence on the exchange list?

The RTA publishes two lists on the same service: a 20-country exception table, and a longer list of origins that can exchange. Britain sits in the exception table: nationality "all countries", no translation, the foreign licence is not withdrawn, and all categories are replaceable. That is the official wording as of the page checked on 31 August 2026. Confirm it is still there on RTA — exchange a driving licence issued outside the UAE (serviceId 121).

The same page lists a valid Emirates ID among the required documents, plus the original driving licence from the exception country. Eye-test and fee lines are also on that page — we do not copy a price table here because those figures move; read the live "Required fees" block before you budget.

Suggested sequence

1. Progress residence and Emirates ID through official channels (UAE Government — Emirates ID, as of July 2026).
2. Read the current RTA guidance for exchanging a foreign licence — start at RTA serviceId 121. Confirm Britain is still on the exception table on the day you apply.
3. Gather the documents the RTA list requires (often including Emirates ID and your UK licence). If a translation or attestation is mentioned, confirm with RTA — do not invent requirements from blogs.
4. Book and complete the exchange through official RTA service channels. Confirm fees and appointment rules on the source before you go.

What we refuse to invent

No copied fee table, no day-count for card issuance, and no promise that the exception list never changes. If a PRO or garage quotes a package, ask which official RTA step they are covering and verify it on serviceId 121 yourself.
