A railway — commuting between Dubai and Abu Dhabi as a new resident

People who live in one emirate and work in the other have usually assumed a car. A national passenger railway changes the question only if you can actually board it from where you live. This page is how to check that, not a fare table and not a neighbourhood recommendation.

Start on the operator's site

Etihad Rail publishes passenger information on its own site. Before you decline a car allowance or sign a lease because of a train, confirm three things there: that passenger service is running, which stations are open in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and how a ticket is booked. See etihadrail.ae. We do not copy a timetable or a price. Both move.

Nol is not automatically the ticket

A personal Nol card is how many new Dubai residents pay for metro, bus, and tram. It is an RTA product. Etihad Rail is a different operator. Set up Dubai local transport in Salik and Nol and buy the rail ticket the way Etihad Rail tells you to, until that site says the two are linked.

Whether it replaces the car

A train replaces a car for work only when the station is a realistic start to your morning and the other end is a realistic walk, metro, or bus to the office. If either end is a taxi across the city, you still have a car-shaped commute with an extra transfer. Abu Dhabi housing and utilities are a different sequence from Dubai — Tawtheeq and ADDC— and this page does not tell you which emirate to live in.
